Got an older (79) L225 that jumps (actually grinds) out of 1st/5th gear, as well as 540 PTO. I plan to fix in about 2 weeks by splitting at clutch & installing a kit, which contains main shaft, gear, bearings & seals, etc. Since this kit is $1000, I want any & all advice B4 starting. I have an I&T manual (good reference, but not many details) and a Ford Dealership mechanic who owes me a favor. (knows his car & truck transmissions) If anyone has any advice, precautions, etc., all is welcome. 1. Does this sound like an afternoon, all day, all weekend, or longer job? 2. Never split a tractor before. Is rejoining alignment a pain in general? Thanks, Tommy Duvall Dalton, Ga. tduvall@alltel.net
