Definitely get an owner's manual. Reprints are available at most tractor supply stores and on the internet for about $12. The reprinted manual is the 1950 version and covers the side mount distributor model. Your 1949 is a front mount distributor so you might want to look for an earlier edition. They come up on ebay fairly often. Price is usually in the $15 - $25 range depending on condition. In addition to an owner's manual, most people seem to like the I&T Shop Manual, publication # FO-4. Those again are available at lots of places (even this website). The editions of the owners manual that I know of are: Form 3729-47-G July 1947 Form 3729-48-A January 1948 Form 3729-48-H August 1948 Form 3729-49-C March 1949 Form 3729-49-H August 1949 and December 1949 Form 3729-50-F June 1950 Form 3729-50-M December 1950 (also in reprint) Form 3729-51-K 1951 Form 3729-52-C 1952
