My father-in-law just finished his haying for the spring. He was telling me that the sq bales are running around $3.50, (orchard grass- western NC) and I think it was around 20$ for the same in round bales. Interestingly he said that the cost of tractor, rake, baler, fuel, wear and tear and labor, he would be better off to buy (I guess at these prices) but noone would sell the quantity he needed, so he continues to cut his own. (he got maybe 400 round/750 square. He has maybe 25 horses/75 cows on 60 acres.
