Could also be a bad battery that has shorted internally inside. I recently just last week had to replace a 12 volt that was in series to make 24 volts in the start supply battery bank in a 44 foot decommissioned coast guard boat. That is the 3rd one I have seen in my life. Its like connecting a wire with a small resistor between the neg and pos posts with a small resistor. The battery just sits there and boils. The signs are that the battery will have a high amperage draw all the time, the battery will be gassing when charging, when the battery needs a boost it will draw excessive current from the charger. It might not be a bad battery but it can be one of the things to watch for very carefully because it would be a safety issue.
