I never had a problem with hay fever while growing up. I spent all day, nearly every summer day, out in the "soup"; walking beans in the morning, baling hay in the afternoon, mowing lawns at night. After I got away from the outdoor work was when I started having problems. I now have to take pills (Allegra D) if I'm going to be outside or mow the lawn, or I'll be miserable. I strongly think it has something to do with sensitivity-when I was exposed to the stuff all the time, it didn't bother me, but now that I'm not out in it every day, when I am in it, I have a reaction. All of this is, of course, just my unscientific observations; your own mileage may vary.
