I agree that alot of kids are pretty sheltered, w/ the disinfect this and that. Neither of my parents suffer from the hay fever, but it about kills me, I first showed signs when dad took me w/ him haying when i was about 5, and have had troubles since. Ragweeds are the worst on me, but around the farm, i get along. drugs and dust masks, and I'm the one who runs my 756D fender tractor using the batwing to mow pastures and weeds. It's just something you learn to live with I guess. Thought i was going to die once...dad had been mowing giant ragweeds w/ the 4020, so about 6" of pollen accumulated on every flat spot on the Year-round cab. I wasn't in the weeds, so I hadn't taken any meds-I have this resistance theory, so I only take them when I really need them-but I jumped on this tractor to help him get some hay bales moved off of the creek bottom before this big rain got to us. Pulled the tractor from 6th back to 8th, and cracked the throttle open, wind blew into the cab, swirled the pollen up, about 3 big breaths of that, and all I could do was punch the clutch and slide to a stop. My eyes swelled shut, nose plugged, and my throat started to swell. stood on the side of the road for a while till i could see and drove back home. had a benedryl supper and went to bed--kinda of a scary deal to have that happen.

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo. ... [Read Article]
