Don't get duped into buying a diesel mower if you are going to mow two acres once or twice a week. You will never make up the difference in price in your lifetime with it. I bought my 52 inch Toro with a kohler 23 hp gas motor for $6200 out the door. It I had bought a diesel it would have been about $10,000 bucks! $3800 dollars difference will buy a lot of gas and oil for a lot of years! Even most of the guys around here that do custom lawn mowing will always have gas powered outfits. You hardly every see a diesel. If I was mowing an entire school grounds and football field I might consider it with a school budget but never for a homeowner. It only takes me 1 hour to mow my 2 plus acre place and if I mowed once a week it would be 52 hours on the tractor if I mowed every week of the year which in Michigan I surely dont. We only mow about 7-8 months out of a year. So if my gas motor will last 3000 hrs I have about 60 years of mowing to look forward too with the old Toro. So if you buy a new motor in 60 years I guess you are doing ok. So don't waste any money on a diesel. There are so many good gas outfits out there it is a total waste. Plus a diesel stinks all the time you are using it like you have your face in a salamander while it it running. Go gas, 20-25 hp, toro, scagg, simplicity, dixie chopper, lexmark, bobcat, cub cadet, john deere, etc, and wear safety glasses and earplugs, (they are all loud). All these commercial models will last more than a lifetime and will be left to your kids like a family heirloom. Good luck and have fun!

Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
