Hey Mark before you run it any more, check that nut on the end of the shaft, the one between the fan and radiator. The kotter key may have sheared or been left out and the nut is coming off the shaft and letting it do what John said. We know what happens next if it comes off, new fan and radiator. Just found one of my D's with the nut only 3 threads left on, ouch!! and dern lucky on that one Bob
