The correct place for serial number plate for a JD 2020 manufactured for USA is on the RH side of tranns. That is the only place I'm aware as JD didn't start putting serial numbers on RH front frame till later models suchas the 2040.

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead!
