Old, Yes...I tried to get away with just the top end (head) rebuild. I had my fingers crossed and was in denial about the rings being okay & left to their own devices, but I guess your right. Thanks for the reality check. She only started smoking like this after several hours into running with the new head. Someone else on YT warned me to do the whole engine at once. Shoulda coulda......... In the meantime, I'll nurse her along and keep her on level ground until my motivation and cooler weather returns. Too hot and humid here in CT to be pulling engines. I don't know how you southern people cope with constant heat but it sure is an inspiration. Kestrel in CT

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned.
