Because in this case somebody paid around $30,000-$35,000 for a tractor they did not use. Then traded it after it lost about all it was going to in depreciation. Lets see. I figgure they probably only allowed the fellow $15,000 for that tractor, so lets pretend he got it for $30,000, that would work out to $157.89 per hour in depreciation. If he had used this tractor regularly, he wouldn't have lost $157.89 per hour, instead it would have been alot more reasonable per hour of loss to depreciation. If you buy something and use it regularly over a number of years, then trade it, you get your money's worth out of it, the person that bought this rig definatly did not and lost lots of money. Thats why he's saying it was somebody with more money than brains. He also said that if I was to buy it, that I should flog it for a few days to get the rings properly seated in the cylinder bores, because it is pretty obvious that whoever bought this rig new never had much use for it so it was problably never worked hard to get the rings seated, and without the rings properly seated, the engine performance suffers due to compression leakage around the rings.
