Hi Gang; All fields in Endland are surrounded by hedges planted a couple of hundred years ago at the time when land was enclosed from large open areas. The most common hedgerow is hawthorn with other species growing according to the type of soil etc. Farmers cut back their hedges annually using side arm flail hedge cutters. The pto drives an hydraulic motor (large container holds oil) to drive the flails in the head and operate the rams to raise & lower. This is an older small unit mounted on 70HP David Brown 1212 tractor. They make much larger units today with 6 feet wide heads and 20 feet plus reach. The most common makes here are McConnel & Bomford both owned by Alamo from the US. Cheers David
