To learn and get started, the opinion about the 135 Massey is as good as it gets. To learn hay cutting and baling I would recommend to stay around 35-40 horsepower tops. When you go to a high hp tractor to learn on- you can tear up alot of equipment, and it's not safe for man or beast to be in the field with you, it's also not safe for you to be alone either, and if you try to run a bigger tractor for 15 acres you would be better off to let the ground layout and buy hay. You'll save money. If you will be growing crops too tall to work with a 35 hp tractor you'll be in the pen soon. Row cropping marijuana in all 50 states is still illegal. It's strictly a greenhouse crop. A 4020 John Deere is too tall to get in a green house and you can't turn it around too good in there. On 15 acres of hay with a sickle bar cutter and an obsolete New Holland rake and square baler you should be safe with a 35hp tractor. I do all my raking and square baling with a 26hp Hinomoto with a dead clutch on 165 acres of hay. I have bigger equipment but I have found that bigger doesn't really mean better. I think you will find that the condition of the cutting equipment and not the power to pull it will determine your effectiveness to work the fields. Unless you inherit a big tractor, then buying a big tractor for 15 acres is like buying an ocean going tugboat for the bathtub, it won't ever fit in right, and you'll miss the corners.
