Any one ever cut grain with a binder

Our club cut grain today, maybe 19 acres of wheat. Use old ground drive binders, they work good if you take it easy. Its the clubs 50th year this year, and to my suprise I found out that we have been doing the grain wrong the whole time. I was told nobody that knows anything about binding ever uses a bundle carrier. Well I was shocked!!! We had always used them, until this new guy joined. I was just wondering if any one else uses them for grain? Maybe I can learn something.
