Use a diode isolator that RV types of places sell. Use that for isolating the charging circuit and use a switch to switch between the two batteries for the output side to your 12 v devices. These high power battery selector switches are available from marine supply places. Your straight paralell method will work , but I think you will like the switched method better. with the batteries in pure paralell if one goes bad it can drain the other one. also you won't have to worry about replacing them in pairs.
