We had our first drive last year. A two day job. We are from southern WI and decided to go to Madison and drive around the Capital. The guy in charge did good on the route, but paid no attention to time. Here we are down town in a pretty good size city at about 4:00 in the afternoon. What a mess, lots of cars. Well, we made it through and headed out to where we were staying the night. The next morning we were supposed to go through town and come back a different route. They decide to leave and hit the streets at 7:30 AM. Big mistake, traffic again, but that was the least of the problems. We set up the line up and were headed to a gas station to fuel. It was decided right before the ride to stay in order ser. The lead driver(who knew way to station) decided to block traffic so we could get across intersection. This puts a kid(16) in the lead with NO idea where we are going. We are headed down a busy street and he decides to STOP. Well he had a newer tractor(1970's) and he stops pretty fast. Next thing you know every body is just STANDING on the brakes. We all got stopped, had more tham a couple inches to spare. Well, the guy that stopped was coming up behind me full tile on a 930 Case. He was turned around talking to a guy in the wagon he was pulling. Turned just soon enough to see me stopped, swerved just missing a light post and his a tree full force with a back wheel. Thought tractor was going over, he was into steering wheel. Stopped him dead, broke rear end casting, axle casting, made a mess. No one got hurt though. Contacted the old lady whose yard he was in, she said it was ok to leave there. Went to gas station, fueled, took shortest most direct route home. After that he comes up and say"All in all, it didn't go that bad". Now he has one planned, has them driving down a major highway for about 15 miles. I'm sitting this one out I think.

Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
