Mulching hay at $2.50 a bale? Decent hay around here goes for $2.00 a bale or less, and "mulching" hay is free for the taking. On the subject of JD L's and LA's- We have a few around western Washington, and nobody pays much attention to them. Kind of like mosquitos. I was in the northeastern corner of Montana some time back, and the local "threshermens" club had a lot of tractors in buildings, and many more in the "boneyard". There was a Moline GB diesel in the boneyard, looked pretty good except for a few missing parts. Inquired about the price, and they said they don't sell much, but they do like to trade. The guy's ears pricked up when he heard that I was from western Washington- he started talking about JD L's, and the fact that that is the only popper JD that they don't have in their collection. I got the distinct impression that if I could come up with an L JD, it would be pretty good trading material for a lot of interesting stuff they had. He mentioned that they had a lot of Moline stuff, and a guy could probably make a complete one out of the parts they had, if a deal could be struck. Or maybe look at putting together a Rumely, or something else. I recall thinking that if we're talking "by the pound", I could sure be the winner here. Didn't follow up on it, though- too many projects, too little time.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
