OT Forklift LP tank question

Aloha,
Does a forklift LP tank have a 12 year life span like the bbq lp tank?? Does it have to be a certain color? I went to fill my lp bbq tank at the local gas dealer and he said that the next time I come to fill my bbq tank, it has to be a white, white color or they will not fill it. When I bought my bbq tank, it was an off white color but still white. Now I have to paint it a white, white color and was wondering what the next law will be. No BBQ tank??? LOL Mahalo,
