I've got a used Sears riding mower in 1996. Had been used by the previous owner as a bush hog (his words) so it needed some repairs. Yes, they're not exceedingly well made and they charge $10 for an airfilter the size of your fist. The tires come so thin that anything can puncture them. But, since the first year's repairs it has run fine (they're not made for rough use). The oringinal owner has just bought a John Deere riding mower. They cost what a small old tractor would. I lifted the "hood" on this Deere and saw it had a Koehler motor Looked like the same one in the Sears. I'd suspect the rest of the Deere is better built in some ways. But you pay for it.
