I was pricing the John Deeres and they are very expensive compared to the Sears, or MTD lawn or garden tractors.
I have a MTD built for Ace Hardware and it has run fine for the last 4 years. I have had to replace 2 belts and one pulley for the mower deck.
MTD builds tractors most of the department stores (Sears, Farm & Fleet, Lowes, etc.) They make a decent lwan trator for a fraction of the cost of some big name brands and MTD makes some parts and tractors for them.
As for the automatics, mine shifts on the go. It is pretty simple to use.
