I believe my Farmall 300's Generator finally gave up. The reason I believe this is due to the ammeter constantly showing a negative amount. Tractor Info 12V system (Positive Ground) I began my troubleshooting by testing all my wiring for continuity and cleaned all connections. Then I tested the output at the "A" terminal of the generator and got .65 mV. I have no idea if this is good/bad or otherwise. (Question 1) Is there a book on generators that will provide me expected inputs/outputs for different models and be and overall troubleshooting guide for the generator/voltage regulator systems on these old tractors (I also have two Farmall C's). Next I installed 1 of the generators off of one of my C's to see if there was more output at the "A" generator terminal. Once it was hooked up it put out 1.5 - 1.8 Volts. This was better but once again, I do not know where it needs to be. Then in all my brilliance, I remembered that the C is a 6 Volt system. (Question 2) Did I just end up needing to purchase not one, but two new generators. More miscellaneous info. After installing the C generator the ammeter showed a charge then after about 10 seconds went back to showing a discharge. I attached my voltmeter to the battery to see if it was charging and got a reading of 12.7 - 12.8 Volts. This was up, compared to the 12.3 - 12.4 Volt reading when the tractor is shut off. (Question 3) What should the charge be on a 12 volt battery with correctly operating generator and Voltage Regulator I appreciate your patience wading through my email, as you can tell I had a very fun Sunday afternoon.
