Yeah it could have been ! My neighbor who's been farming our place here since before I was around buried the big JD combine with the corn head on it last fall, he almost made it out the other side but was about 50 feet into the rut, the ruts were over 2 feet deep afterwards. The back end faced a marsh like area with some hard spots in and around it, problem there is a small swale needs to be cut in and around it, so it drains, just that the high tension wires hang low there, kind of afraid to go in there, I think they are 120,000 volts each line, really hang low in this heat. So the area was soaked around it, but after 1 months worth of rain even in this well drained soil that can tolerate quite a bit, was a no go, did not even make the first pass, he called his son, he brought over one of the JD's, one with front axle drive and I hooked the chain, just to get him lined up he had to run into the marsh knock some trees down, so we could back the combine out, turn the wheels toward hard ground and get him going again, the front axle drive sure was handy in that mush, in years past we've pulled him out in other fields with the D7 crawler which usually makes it easy, but I'm not sure I'd have been able to get in and get close enough, without making a mess, worrying about those darn power lines and frying, knocking corn down etc. He followed the 1st pass in and got him out, left the corn in the wet areas til a frost came. Did not knock even 1 stalk down when said and done. What a potential disaster though, had that other tractor gotten stuck..... Darn birds put a damper on the yield, they were raining kernels on the roof of my deer stand, whole flock of grackels sure can do some damage, so can the squirrels, the outside rows are empty if you leave it too long to dry, he could have gotten it earlier last year but was trucking sileage with his 30 yd dump, was really dry before the month of rain in Oct. 05, after that the yield took a beating from critters. Wish we could have sent some rain your way when you needed it, like having a sale on air conditioners in the winter, who needs one then ? LOL !

Good As New - by Bill Goodwin. In the summer of 1995, my father, Russ Goodwin, and I acquired the 1945 Farmall B that my grandfather used as an overseer on a farm in Waynesboro, Georgia. After my grandfather’s death in 1955, J.P. Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father
