My first guess is that you've got the plate in backwards, but you sure sound like you know what you're doing so.....my next guess is that the adjustment on the fingers on the clutch are not in correct adjustment---I've only had this happen once....he's my story...a 6 cylinder ford gas engine on a new holland stackwagon....this guy overhauled it, and put in a new clutch and pressure plate...wouldn't relase...when you looked at it thru the inspection hole...the arms on the pressure plate were out (torwards the transmission a longways)...I thought he had put the plate in backwards...pulled the trans. and everything was right....so I'm thinking wrong pressure plate...I go see him...this guy is a top notch mechanic...he tells me...if there are no adjustments (ie...bolts on the pressure plate...to make adjustments ....these would change the relationship as to where the fingers on the clutch are when it is in the released positon...) then you can use an old mechanics trick...and put so spacers between the pressure plate and the flywheel....sounds crazy I thought...I put 2 5/16ths flat washers under each bolt (between the flywheel and the pressure plate) this moved the fingers of the clutch IN...and then it would release...its been that way for 2 or 3 years and works just fine. You don't have to even pull anything apart if you can get to it...loosen the pressure plate bolts...install the flat washers...retighten and see what happens... I don't know anything about your tractor, so I don't know if you can do it like this, but based on my experience, I sure wonder if maybe this is what you've got going on. Good Luck.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
