If it was me I would try to get your dad to just live without having the surgery and wait it out. I lost my grandfather in 1998, he went in for the removal of a bowel obstruction and then went into a coma 2 days after the surgery and then died 1 week later, he was 83, WW2 war veteran/officer/pilot too. My prayers are with you in your decision. My FIL has bladder cancer and may live another 6 months, he doesnt go anywhere, except the doctor and lays around the house, he is 59.
