i'am not up to date on new models. when i was looking for one 10 years ago, i had looked at a few different brands, at that time i thought that wheel horse gave the most bang for the buck. my son and i stoped at a yard sale,saw this 1965 in good condition, came w/mower deck, snow blower, push blade and tire chains. after jewing the guy down a c-note, paid $450. dealer said it was a good deal if i could get it for under $1500. i'am of the opinion that if he took his $800-$1200 that he might spend at Lowes, find a good older tractor that will last a lot longer than Lowes, then he wont have to spend more money every 4 years. if he wants to smell new paint burn he can always repaint it, which in some cases you might have to.went to a sale saturday, they had 2 nice 1970's, 8hp sold for $850 [a little high] 12hp sold for $1200 [about right]
