On an older diesel probably won't hurt but probably wouldn't help much eiter. On a newer diesel such as the High pressure common rail injected Cummins in my Dodge pick-up, DO NOT dump anything in there except a good reputable diesel fuel addidtive/treatment. These newer engine's with their extremely high fuel pressure's(20,000psi plus)will not take kindly to ATF or the like. Save the ATF for automatic transmissions and use what is recomended for fuel treatment.
