Mona, there's a whole litany of things that could be causing your overheating, from something as simple as the fan belt slipping or the radiator cap bad (if it has a pressure radiator), costing a few dollars to fix, to cracks in the cylinder head or block, costing hundreds or more. It's difficult to diagnose (make an experienced guess) without a lot more info. And it depends on how much the rig would sell for if it was running OK, whether there's someone to fiddle with it vs. having to pay a shop $70-100 per hour plus parts to fix it. I have no idea what they usually sell for, and for anyone to more than guess they'd need more detail about condition, usage, history, etc etc.. Hopefully someone will at least give you a range. There's also questions about your buyer: if he's a dependable friend he may be making a good offer; on the other hand, if you're doing this by yourself, it wouldn't be the first time someone tried to take advantage of someone inexperienced. Feel free to meet me on email so we don't have to clutter the site. Best wishes.
