Has anyone thought to ask what the tractor's mission might be? If this guy wants a "real" tractor to plow, bush hog, etc. then none of the machines he mentioned will work. On the other hand, a tractor that will pull a plow will massacre a pretty, smooth lawn. You either have a Tractor or a Lawn Mower. There is not a machine which does both well. This statement comes from much expensive experience.
My philosophy is that I can buy a new MTD or Roper made mower every 3 years for what I'd pay for a JD, which is not a lot different from the Dept Store brands. I have seen Kubota mowers, which are 2 cyl diesels about 12 to 20 hp. These would be my choice if I wanted a mower to give to my grandkids. Besides, the diesel JD's are actually Yanmar's anyway.
