Oilite bearings are made from powdered copper or different alloys, this is then placed in a die and pressed to the desired density [30% up to 90%]. Then placed in vacume or inert gas atmospere and heated to cause the powder particles to bond together. This was developed by Armour research Foundation of the ITT University for a bearing to hold a lubricant. It must be in a sturdy housing or it will shatter. I worked on this project, working there was some of the best years in my younger lifr.
