rewiring case311b probs.

1958 case 311-b gas engine, 12 volt w/ positive ground
painted tractor,reassembled,cleaned all grounding areas, ran new wiring,- starter,lights & etc. work ok, but can not get flow through amp meter, tried
2 different gauges,and can not get a discharge on
gauge. Tried polarizing reg. and do not get a spark at generator. I am guessing that regulator is bad,and parts store shows reg. for diesel, would this be same reg.? they want $58.50 for the
regulator. Is there a positive ground and a neg.
ground reg.?? any help/info. would be greatly
appreciated. Thank You in advance.
