JD B cylinder head

I have a JD B with a rather large crack in the cylinder head. My service manual talks about doing cold welds on heads. Does anyone have any experience with this? Would this be a reliable fix beings its such a large crack? Or would it be possible to do a hot weld? Thank-You very much.
