For those of yopu that read my post the other night about my brother-in-laws cousin here's an update. I finally got a chance to talk to Dad this morning about CJ's death last week. Nobody but the Good Lord knows exactly what happened but here's what everyone, including the "officials" believe happened. CJ had been in a car accident several months back and had sustained a neck injury in the accident and was attending physical therapy. None of the family wanted him to go because they didn't think he was ready but 'he was 21 and he felt good and was gonna go regardless of what anyone thought'. According to his buddy, who was riding a short distance behind him, they were riding at a pretty good pace down a rutted up but fairely straight trail. He saw CJ sorta droop forward and said he never hit the brakes or anything as he went off the trail and down the hill nearly 50 feet. What everyone theorizes happened, based on what his buddy saw and what they found with his body, is when he hit one of the ruts in the trail it "whiplashed" his neck. With he muscles already being weak from the accident and the additional weight of the helmet on top of everything else, the muscles simply couldn't stand the shock and his neck broke. With most ATV accidents there is usually some sort of recklessness involved, be it riding without protective gear, or just "riding stupid" . This time it was just just the plain old stubborness of a young, hard headed guy trying to have a good time. It's a tragidy something like this happened to someone so young, but at least he died doing something he loved. Dad said the family seemed to be doing OK and as you'd expect were surrounded by friends from the community. Thanks for the prayers.
