Ed is 100% right about tractors setting smoke detectors off. When I start our John Deere model B in the garage (2 car attached to our house), the detector in the kitchen goes off if I do not shut the door to the house first. Gets quite a rise from the wife. A cut off switch or a timer to disable it might work, but it most likely will be off when the fire happens. (Murphy said something about that). How about hooking it to a 2 way light switch, so it is on when the light is off?
