Generally pulling sleeves takes a sleeve puller or a press, either equipped with a disk that fits the bottom of the sleeve but clears the block. Usually a bolt type of puller is handier than a press. With an old engine, a sleeve may not move cooperatively. I've heard that there are a few techniques that loosen a sleeve. One might be to cool the sleeve with dry ice. Another might be to heat the sleeve hot enough that it can shrink when it cools. Means heating red. I think more would suggest running some arc welder beads the length of the sleeve. That gets local heating to soften the sleeve, then as the weld bead cools it shrinks and shrinks the sleeve. It does make the sleeve unusable again. But no more than having to peel the sleeve out in pieces. Gerald J.
