I had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago. I threw in a last-minute bid on an antique Fairbanks-Morse hit & miss engine and saw rig, and won the auction for the minimum bid, which was $500. Shortly thereafter I got an e-mail from the seller (who had listed it for a friend) claiming the engine had been stolen and that he had been canceling bids but didn't get to mine in time. I responded and asked why he didn't just end the auction if the item was no longer for sale -- eBay allows you to do that. I also asked him to fax me a copy of the police report of the theft. His story: He didn't know if a police report had been filed, as the engine's owner had been so upset by the theft that he had a heart attack and was in the hospital. Sounded fishy to me, and I filed a complaint with eBay, but I don't expect much to happen with this. I just ran across a bad seller -- that's bound to happen from time to time. Darn. Would've liked to have that engine, too. Guess I got my T.S. card punched on that one.

A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
