Doug, In addition to Bobs good answers, other things that can be hard on Mag coils are running plug gaps wayyyyyyy wider then specified and tripping a mag with no load like a spark plug or a plug wire to ground etc attached especially in mags that do NOT have an internal safety gap to short out the voltage spike. Its good to have any mag vent holes clean n open and humidity n dust n moisture and oldddddd age are just tough on 50 year old coils with the old technology insulations like Bob was talking about.
