From what little I know about steam the engineer must have been on the ball and got the fire dumped. Looks like the crown sheet was probably exposed. Recipe for a major disaster. I might be off base on this as I know just enough about steam to be dangerous. On another note I remember a neighbor telling about when he was a kid seeing a steamer do a quick reverse for some reason. Front axle came out of the support. Spent the rest of the day fixing. jt
