The fly fre date here in NY is around the third week in sept. Cooler climate, earlier date. Warmer, later. Your county extesion office can give you the best info for your exact area. Named the Hessian fly because it was supposedly brought over from Europe in staw bedding used on British ships bringing Hessian mercenary soldiers here to fight the colonials. Maybe the colonials just disliked the Hessian soldiers so they named something bad after them. Many Hessians stayed here after the war and settled. For what thats worth.
