Re; trouble scans, most auto parts stores will not have the equipment needed to scan pre-1996 vehicles. I recommend that you go to the "general automotive" problem forum at www.freeautoadvice.com and ask about this problem and how to read codes on that vehicle. A few weeks ago someone over there told me how to read codes on a 93' Taurus simply by jumping two plug terminals under the hood, and reading the codes by the flashing of the "check engine" light. It might be similar with your truck. If you have not luck getting a similar method for you truck, let me know and I will try to find the link to the Taurus info for you. Good luck
