I am of the belief, "drive the biggest vehicle you can afford". In 2000 on a sunny afternoon while driving a dark red plymouth grand voager mini-van, my children and I were struck head on at 55mph by a neighbor driving a Jeep Wrangler. 1 hour and twenty minutes to cut me out of the car. I now have metal rod in leg, metal plates in my arm and total metal face reconstruction. The only thing I could have done differently is drive a bigger car. Wife now drives fire-engine red suburban and I drive a four door Chevy truck. On the outside I look perfect but on the inside I am a mess....old age will be a painful life for me. The price of gas is just part of living my rural lifestyle. I commute 50 miles a day to the big city so every evening I can "retire" to my farm in the country. I will not downsize no matter what the cost is.
