Also put the cover back on the readjusted regulator before checking the final voltage setting.The magnetic field in the voltage relay will be changed a bit by the presence of the steel regulator cover and can affect the final voltage setting by + - 1/2 volt. NEVER remove or replace the regulator cover with the battery connected. The electrically hot internals of the regulator are very near the cover and touching a part carrying battery voltage and the regulator base with the cover will burn up the regulator or more. Always remove the ground battery cable before R&Ring the cover.
