A good friend lives about a half-mile from me-was a pilot with the Flying Tigers in China and WW II. Name of Ed Bollen. He's 84 y.o.! After the war, he stayed in and got to fly the jets until retirement! Two fellow students in high school went into the Air Force after graduation. Learned to fly bombers. (B-24s) Went to England and France. On a bomb run over France/ Germany, another plane in formation got hit, fell thru the formation, hit their plane, cut off the tail section, and the plane crashed, killing the two guys i knew from school! Strange part--the tail and top turret gunners managed to parachute out, and were saved by the Germans! Although, they did get sent to POW camps, until war was over!
