Gerald, I been runnin propane for years and normally use the small tip for 1/4 inch or so cutting but can cut 1/2 inch if I change to the bigger tip. The problem, however as you note, is it takes a lil longer n more preheat and the pressure settings are more critical VERSUS with my old acetylene you just pick her up n regardless of steel size or pressure settings chop right through 3/4 steel woooooo hoooooooo. I can cut n slobber my way through most steel even 1 inch eventualy buttttttttt a good torch man with the right sized tip n pressure settings can cut steel so smooth n even it looks like its been sawed through buttttttt nottttttt meeeeeeeeeee John T
