A friend of mine in the USMC "inherited" his dad's 1969 Chevy pickup. It started making knocking sound from the motor, especially when de-accelerating. He decided to check the bearings on day. We jacked her up and pulled the pan. I fished arouns in the bottom of the pan and came up with a 9/16" socket. Apparently it would get thrown around and rattle when he came up to a stop. We pulled the intake the same day (to replace it with an aluminium one) and found a 1/2 wrench in the valley. He called his dad and was told that the last time anyone ever opened the motor up was 12 years before that.
