That means the tractor had a catastrophic failure of some sort. It could be the previous owner didn't have enough antifreeze in it and cracked the block, so they went with a new engine. That doesn't mean that the rest of the tractor is bad. However, an engine that was replaced because the original had a rod shot through the side (or similar failure) may indicate that the tractor was run hard with poor maintenance, which would make the rest of it suspect to problems, too. As far as 2640s go, they are good tractors (as with any tractor, assuming they've been taken care of). My neighbor has one, and I've rented one, and I may buy one myself this fall.
