I bought an 861 Ford tractor at a farm auction today (farmer retiring) and I'm pretty excited about it. Based on the serial number (165506), it is a 1962 model. Its in good condition. I know the owner of the tractor (he owned it for 20 years) and his cousin bought it new. The owner used it daily raking hay and odd jobs on a 250 acre tobacco and cattle farm. It was rebuilt about 10 years ago. It doesn't smoke and the oil pressure gauge reads 50 pounds after its warmed up. Except for the the fenders and a brushed-on paint job, the sheet metal is perfect. The fenders have minimal rust but a few dents to fix. Does anyone know for certain the factory horsepower for this tractor? I've seen many postings in various forums that say 38, 40, 45 or 48 hp, so there seems to be a lot of confusion out there about it. The tractor does not have Powermaster markings, but is an 861 automatically a Powermaster or not? If not, what is the difference between an 861 and an 861 Powermaster?
