I have a Ford 961 Row Crop tractor. This summer I noticed a "clunk" - really more like a "sproing"- as if gears are binding. This noise seems to be heard in both the left and right rear. It is heard while the tractor is turning sharply, pulling a load, or if on a side hill. Initially I heard it more on the right, but now I seem to hear it on both sides (though not both sides at the same time). I was thinking the noise was coming from the gearing in the off set rear axle (this is a row crop tractor), but now am wondering about the differential. Any ideas/ how to determine problem? Thanks for any help!
