You raise very good points. I have little confidence in motion detectors for this application. Deer, owls, etc, however, do not go through doors, so I like good, hidden if possible, murcury switches on doors. Even a half door between rooms can have a switch installed. Anticipate where a bad guy will go and try to 'wire' those accesses. Even a large tool box can be wired. Electric eyes are useful also but do fail. It's difficult to catch someone outside a building excpt with monitored cameras. To many chances for false alarm. It's also dificult to keep emotion out of the picture and be objective when protecting property. Most burglars are smart enough to attack when no one is looking. Hopfully, well worded and placed signs will keep most bad guys out, especially if they see the alarm system tested ocasionally. Always put timers on the alarm so if it does go off you won't keep neighbors up all night.
