I forgot to mention, I like a straight (30W or whatever is appropriate) grade oil at first start up. Then go to what's appropriate afterward.

Currently I've gravitated to 15W-40 Shell Rotella, since that stuff is rated good enough for diesel service, is multigrade and is still also rated for gas engines. Seems to work fine.

Nobody could argue with simply changing to whatever straight weight oil that was appropriate to the season.
