Well - if you recall - I said that the letters were FROM the mid 1800's, not BURIED in the 1800's. Since this parcel of land has only been in the family since about 1947 - the box has probably been in the ground a realitivley short time. Didn't find a treasure, just a couple letters, coins and other small stuff. The translation is underway by someone on this board as we speak. I took them to a couple of local people, but one was 93 and said her eyesigth was to the point she coundn't read them. Since you are versed in the field, why not lend a hand at the translation, instead of rushing to judgment?
